Rest Day Thoughts

5 comments:

  1. WODoers: I cannot help but wonder what would happen if we had a cycle that went Cindy, Grace, Run 5k, rest day, then CFT. It seems like the last four or five CFTs have been after at least one brutal wod. I feel like I might be able to set PRs on all three lifts if I had the right build up. Maybe I will try that cycle in two weeks when my body is ready for CFT again. What do you guys think? Just curious, I know its not the numbers that matter, but can't help but wonder what would happen.

  2. I wonder as well. There are times when I don't feel the best getting to the gym and I actually lift well. Then, there are other days when my warm-up feels awesome, but my lifts suck. I haven't quite figured it out yet.

  3. In 1997 I was at a motocross track and was approaching a 30 foot table top (one I had done many times) in 4th gear on my CR250. About 2 seconds from the jump my throttle stuck. I got launched up and over that jump, flew another 20-30 feet (probably about 15 feet above the ground) and landed hard down on my feet. You could hear my knee blow up (POP!). The bike flew up ahead of me, landed, tumbled, and sat there with the throttle still pinned. I got up and hobbled over to the bike and hit the kill switch.

By the time me and my buddies got home I couldn't put any weight on the knee at all and it was grapefruit sized. At the time I had no health insurance. I was a consultant for the same company I work for now. I had just started then. Unable to walk, I sat on the couch with my knee up and iced for weeks. I almost lost my job too. Eventually it got to the point where I could walk, so I went back to work. By early 1998 I got hired on full time and in July 1998 I had my knee redone. They removed tendon tissue from my hamstring to make a new ACL with, which they anchored on the top and bottom with some big ass screws. Most of my lateral meniscus also had to be shaved out, my MCL was also partially torn so they repaired that, and the medial head of my tibia was "jigsaw puzzled" (tons of micro cracks). Recovery from the surgery was horrible. So much pain. The doctor at the time said "we might have to do this again in about ten years, it depends on many factors....."

Here we are 12 years later. After Linda and the thrusters WOD everything felt great. I was really happy with my performance, the cleans felt perfect form wise for the first time ever. Sunday night I was up on a ladder installing new light fixtures in the house, all was well. No pain during the WODs, but I did notice the knee started to swell a little on Sunday, but nothing I wasn't used to (every time I run this happens).

Since Monday it has become progressively worse, to the point now where I am having to hold onto things sometimes to get around. Major limping, knee is ballooned, and elevation, ice, and ibuprofen aren't helping.

I think my ACL went, but I don't know for sure.

Seeing the orthopedists today @ 10:30 AM our time. I'll let you guys know.

Oh, haven't exercised in 4 days. This morning I did 5 rounds of 10 ring dips and 10 dead hang pullups (kipping hurts the knee). I didn't time it, just a tune up WOD. I did 10 GHDs and BE's while warming up and it didn't bother the knee. So I think I can do some limited upper body stuff (RD,s PUs, bench, pushups, anything sitting, so could do seated SP too) and core, and one legged squats with the good leg. That will help me from getting too depressed.

  4. Went to doc, he was concerned with the major swelling and lack of ROM (Which was due to the swelling, so really he was like WHOA! when he saw the knee). He then sent me to get an MRI, which I got... results will be discussed Friday morning.

His exact words "Something really pissed your knee off here!"

  5. Yeesh Fletcher. I feel for you man, hopefully Friday's news won't be too bad.

So I took the advice and made up Garrett today. Modified it a bit:

    Squats as rx'd
    SP/PP 95#
    Tuck PUs
