DUDES -
I've listened to a few of Robb Wolf's "The Paleolithic Solution" podcasts and they are very good. Combined with Dr. Sear's talks on the Journal one can hardly not be convinced that diet plays the primary role in our health.
One specific thing I wanted to share with you guys (besides go listen to all of what Sears says in the Journal series and listen to Wolf too!) is that RW consistently recommends sweet potatoes for post WOD nutrition. Not solely, but include them. The reasoning is that yams do an excellent job of restoring liver glycogen. Also, they are nothing like regular potatoes (which are on the BAD list!) as far as their glycemic load. The Glycemic Index of yams is 37!! That is a very good score. This means that they do not flood your blood with sugar causing your pancreas to blast out a ton of insulin. A baked potato, on the other hand, has the same sugar load/effect on your body as 3/4 of a cup of sugar.
YAY FOR YAMS!!

Oh, I did a mini Wod today after 5 days off cos' I was sick (and still am getting over it). I did three rounds of Kelly but subbed 500M row for running. Dumping snow right now and my knee is still hurting from Griff. When am I going to learn that running isn't for me? I just like to do it though dammit.
ReplyDelete3 rounds with rowing = 16:02, was out there for 40 minutes though. Warm up stuff, stretching, etc.
Had to pack up the garage gym cos we have some guys replacing all of the trim and doors in our house this week. They need the garage to store and cut the wood. So I'll have to be creative during this next cycle.
I prefer drinking a jug (64oz’s or more) of Ms.'s Butterworth’s Pancake syrup post WOD followed by a fifth of vodka, cheap vodka (less then 0.05$ per fluid oz), only to seal the deal with a few hits off the good old crack pipe. Yep that’s how you do it, Zone my ass!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding.
I Challenge anyone to come up with a more destructive post WOD meal combo and post it!
Let me know...
As for sweat potato's, they rock we eat them at the fire house every day... and conveniently after I finish working out usually.
WODoers:
ReplyDeleteHere is a link that exposes the truth about the GI. It shows that a hight GI doesn't always mean shit, like watermelon, and it points out how light beer is actually a low GI food and very good for you.

Also, it is from a totally unbiased and independent source, so cheers!
Everything is about beer after all.
ReplyDeleteNo Justin, seriously, Glycemic LOAD is much more significant. I thought about that after I typed my post.
Seriously though, yams are supposedly the best post WOD (with some protien too)... I bought three yams, skinned them, boiled them til soft, mashed them with butter, milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg. They are VERY good!!!
