Myles: At first it was simple to stay motivated, when everytime a new wod came up and you would crush your prior time, but then it gets harder. What works for me is that I think of crossfit as my "diet". Diet from the Greek root of the word means way of life. From eating good to hitting the wod hard crossfit is my diet, or way of life. The other thing I draw motivation from is continuous improvement. I try to make note of the little improvements that happen when you work hard. It is like Lombardi said, "Dictionary is the only place where success come before work." The best part is it is applicable to all aspects of my life. It makes me a better lawyer and person.
WODoers: On that note, just making myself do today's wod took a serious pep talk after yesterday's hill climb and drinking some serious beer at a redneck mud bog festival.
Love the Lombardi quote Justin, as well as the other thoughts.
I'm playing catchup after a swamped week last week. I made up Nate yesterday, 9 rounds w/ ring PUs/ring dips and 12 swings since I only have a 1.5pd KB. Then I made up the rc/rd/sq today, I subbed 50 jpus for the rope and made 19:03, a 5min PR on that one (w/ the same sub as before).
Now I need to decide if I double up tomorrow on the burpees & lunges before hitting the road for the rest of the week. I might leave the lunges for the hotel gym, we'll see...
And Myles to throw in my own 50cents, what most keeps me going is the simple concept that, while I was an athlete through college, it'd been a LONG time without working out regularly before I found CF, and now going after it every day helps keep me in tune with what made me so happy way back then: the competitiveness, the challenges, and the way that, even if I'm sore, I feel awesome after I've recovered from a WOD. The added benefit is that my son now sees both me and my wife (she's an active horseback rider) as healthy, active people and he emulates that. So I feel that I'm passing along good habits just as much as I'm benefiting from them myself.
OK, so I finally made up the burpees/bj/ttb WOD. I posted my time there, nothing to write home about. But these lunges are gonna have to wait. Off to SoCal for the rest of the week!
