Birthday WOD

WODoers -

Shoulder and roid say no to lots of heavy thrusters. Instead I did this:

As many single unders as you can unbroken: 209 (PR)
50 double unders for time: 3 minutes (not so good on that, winded from SUs)

4 rounds for time of:
50 squats
run 400M
(goal: round 4 must be best time)

TT = 14:30 fastest round was #4 @ 3:24

Rest two minutes then must do 50 more squats in under a minute

TT = 58 seconds. BURN!!!!

  1. Forgot to mention 14:30 is PR by 39 seconds. Not so impressive, but still, a PR is a PR. We are reversing aging.

  2. Nice Fletcher, a PR's a PR in my book no matter what the time is. Each WOD turns the clock back a little no matter how you feel, so keep on keeping on!

    Five rounds for time of:
    15 Thrusters, 135lbs
    Run 400 meters

    Jacob 19:51 (155lbs)

    Game plan was 5 thrusters every 40 seconds and then 400's at a 1:45 pace (9mph) on the treadmil. Worked well!

  3. Happy Birthday Craig! Jacob damn impressive doing the thrusters with 155. I did this RX'd, the thrusters got real heavy midway through. The runs plain sucked I was so out of breath. I was glad when it was over.

  4. Happy Birthday Fletcher. It's a great Saturday here in H-town this morning.

    Five rounds for time of:
    15 Thrusters, 135lbs

    TT = 24:52

    All thrusters broken down by round:
    7,5,3
    5,5,5
    6,5,4
    8,4,3
    10,5

    I was trying to stay on a pace of 5 minute per round, but fell a bit behind and gassed it in at the end.

    Went to the doctor yesterday. They said that I'm healthy but need blood pressure medication because of my family history of dad dying at 52, and 3 of 4 grandparents dying before age 70. Kind of disappointed because I've continually worked out hard and eat healthy for the most part. I thought I could beat it. Anyway, later fellas.

  5. Just out of curiosity Mike what's your BP been running lately and have you been having any symptoms. I'm not educated much on Crossfit and diet, but I never hear Crossfit nutritionist comment on sodium intake and blood pressure as a whole. Usually diet and exercise do it, unless you have some form of malignant hypertension that's gone unresolved, I'd find it hard pressed for a physician to push for drugs on something usually corrected by less invasive means.

  7. When I was at the doctor's office it was 140 over 90 at 55 bpm. I don't have anything to compare it to as I probably haven't had my blood pressure taken in years. And, no I don't know of any symptoms other than having bad genes. Tonight I was at a friend's house who had a bp machine and it was 125-130 over 65-75. So, who knows. Other than my pride, I guess it can't hurt nothing to take the medicine.

  8. Mike: Just my thoughts on what I tell my patients. Keep a log of your BPs over a week or so. You may find that your BP is normally lower than what you get at the Dr.s office. Bring that log into your appt and show him that and see what he says then. 140/90 is just barely hypertensive. I would highly recommend you check your own BPs for awhile before getting put on meds for the rest of your life.

    I knew todays WOD was going to be tough for me. Did the first 15 thrusters unbroken then had to break them up into 6, 5, 4 for the rest of the rounds.

  9. Mike all medications have side effects and BP meds are notorious for that. Fatigue is the most common one and for a crossfiter that means almost certain death when you physically feel out of it all the time. That's the main reason why I ask. Who knows you might just have white coats syndrome and once your outside the doctors office your BP will be right where it should be. Anyways I'd listen to Smorey's advice and keep a log, and drastically cut out sodium ffom your diet and you should see changes within 2-4 weeks time.

  10. Thanks for the input Jacob and Morey. I was extremely apprehensive when my doctor told me that. One of my aunts back home is a nurse, so I'll have her check me out next week while I'm home to see what my bp is when I'm there.

    Morey, if I start now taking meds now does that mean that I have to stay on them? Or, can I quit as quickly as I started?
