  1. Guys - posted this to the mainsite, if it goes thru, after I read the comment that I copied below. I'm not a heart-on-my-sleeve kind of guy but I get pissed off sometimes, and this is one of those times. Call me wordy but whatever. =>

I'm sure this post from the mainsite will soon be deleted so I copied it here in case:

--LMFAO @ the sucker who got killed building a nation for terrorists and towel heads.

There's clearly been a recognition, among people who feel differently about the goals of American goals overseas, of the service that Crossfit does for those offering the ultimate sacrifice toward those goals. There have been numerous posts in the past in this vein, often leading to extended discussions, about certain events and theories, and that's been fine. There have been vigorous arguments against American actions in Her defense; again, I think the argument is welcome as an opportunity to present the rationale for that defense. But more recently, there have been petty attacks, admittedly singular but notable nonetheless, that need be singled out and addressed.

The above is one of them. Another one, posted a few days ago, shocked me in its lack of response:

    --[Five rounds for time of:
    Row 500 meters
    135 pound Thruster, 7 reps]

    As rx'd: 18.11
    100125: 25.56
Done in honor of Pfc. Bradley Manning.
And for all soldiers of the truth.

I've always been chary about my comments regarding the significance of hero WODs. I have my own set of morals; they are extremely similar to those espoused by Coach and the site but they are my own and I tend to keep them to myself. Suffice it to say, though, that that similarity is one thing, among others, that endears me to this program.

I don't think I'm alone. And while the overriding mantra of Crossfit is one of open discussion and active argument, a line can be crossed.

To mock those who give the ultimate sacrifice for our interests, as if they've been offered at will to those against us, or to praise those who've willingly served to demean our interests for their own ends - the purest definition of treason - is to cross that line.

Whoever provides such opinions is free to defend them as best they can; this site has often been a forum for great debate about many controversial topics.

These ideas are kindling though. Please don't let us think you would leave such material without a sound reason, for to do so merely leaves the rest of us with the sole rationale that you care little for the forest.

  2. Hey Chas! The offensive comment was "LMFAO @ the sucker who got killed building a nation for terrorists and towel heads." right? (obviously it's offensive) then your commentary follows, then the other comment was "Done in honor of Pfc. Bradley Manning. And for all soldiers of the truth." and the comments after that are your own as well, correct?

    - trying to make sure I know who said what first.

  3. And yes, that comment was removed. You know, I'm with Justin, sometimes when I see the hero WODs and I see the face on these men, I get emotional. All tragic loss of human life sucks but freedom isn't free. Radical Islam (not Islam, RADICAL Islam) is perhaps the single greatest threat our world faces and it must be contended with. Period. War sucks. Killing sucks. Death sucks. But the world is broken, and these guys are doing their best to fix it for ME and for YOU. I sure as hell never had the balls to join the military. When I see these guys in the airport I shake their hand, salute them, offer them a beer, etc.

  4. That's right Fletcher. And I'm with you on your second comment.

Sorry I dumped such a long post here. I was just pissed off last night when I saw that post, then figured it (and my response) would probably get deleted.

  5. I decided to pull a double today. Not a very good idea. This WOD was a mental battle for me. I just kept pushing myself and refused to quit. The time really didn't matter to me, I just wanted to finish.

    TT: 51:24

    Rest in peace Captain Whitten

  6. Chris did you do this RX'd? NICE! CRAZY!

  7. Everything RX'd except 20" box jumps instead of 24". That was enough for me. I'm still feeling it almost 2 hours later!

  8. My biggest question was about those KBS's, I think I'll have to scale those down with my back. Last time I did 100 2 pooders my back hurt deeply for about a week! Nice one dude. Very nice. Mikko is a machine? 30 minutes with 530M runs?!? Beat the CF games champ by 5 minutes?!?

  9. Nice work Chris! I also did 20" jumps, and I did 1.5pd KBS instead of 2pd. Thrusters for WB.

    TT = 46:15

  10. Thanks Chas. You kicked my ass by a solid 5 minutes. Craig should be posting anytime now. He was getting ready to do Whitten early this AM.

What's everyone's thoughts on todays WOD? Not super heavy on the DL's to make it a true metcon? Thanks what I'm probably going to do.

    Later guys.

  11. I meant THAT's what I'm probably going to do..

  12. Hey boys. Had my top 3% IRONMAN tri buddy over today for Whitten fun times. My approach here (and with the 50 the other day) was to pace... but try to do as many sets unbroken as possible.

Subbed 54 lbs KB to save my back. TT 40:43. My friend Mike was right behind me 40:55. He used 35 lb KB and 12 lb WB.

All WB, KBS, and burpee sets unbroken! Had to rest sometimes on box jumps. Last two rounds of running were 500M rows which didn't help any. Knees were hurting on the runs so decided to be smart about that. I think I can run 400M in the same time anyway. really felt good, pushed hard, but didn't feel sick after. Felt good!

  13. Chas, so I can do buddy WOD's with two 20 lb wall balls... I made a cheapie. Went to Target and got a $7 rubber regulation sized basketball, drained most of the air out, got a 1/2 " drill bit, drilled out the air valve to make a 1/2" hole... got some play sand from the hardware store (really fine sand, easier to use), poured it in there until I was at 20 lbs, then gooped up the hole with silicone. Let it dry for two days, and then voila! Wall ball for $10. It's a little easier to throw and catch than the Dynamax but still, it's a 20 lb wall ball!
