Justin, I had a similar experience. My PR last time (what, like 6-7 weeks ago) was 5:05 and had I known I was so close to a sub-5 I know I could have gotten there. My WOD buddy Chris didn't yell at me enough!
Today I was just beat down. I knew after the first round there was no PR in sight, so I must admit I backed off a little, the pullups just weren't happening (Angie!), but the thrusters weren't so bad. TT = an embarassing 6:27. Actually I don't really care to be honest! I still worked hard, I just wasn't feeling it, my muscles said "NO!" I didn't drink anything last night, so this is also scientific proof that alcohol is good for you because a dry night didn't help me for squat! :-)
I did PR 50 double unders though, 2:21. That's not fast, but I am just learning those things. They sure do wind you! I'll get sub two very soon, it's a rhythm thing. Rhythm is a weird word.
Maybe Coach is loading us up with tons of pullups and then throwing Fran in there just to diss all the people that hype Fran so much as the ultimate scorecard for fitness. He's like "OK gang, do 325 pullups in 4 days, and THEN do Fran, and you'll see, you won't get no PR!" Maybe he gets sick of all the Fran hype? Just a guess... I don't know. Why else would they RX 380 pullups in consecutive WODs. I didn't even do Eva either.
Third time is a charm I guess. First time I did Fran was back in February and I got a 6:37. Last time was at Craig's place and it was an embarrassing time that I didn't even post it. Too much travel, not enough sleep, balls to the wall to early and 5,000 feet above sea level kicked my ass. Enough excuses.
Today I tried Jacob's strategy and it really seemed to help.

Chris, nice PR! Crazy after all of these pullups. I'm excited to see what you can do on your next normal Fran when it doesn't come after 400 pullups.
I'll post his Colorado time, it was like 8:37. So uh... yah, this is a little better! When Chris was in my gym I was like "What is wrong with Chris?" He was walking around in between sets, looking pale, couldn't even drink a beer for like an hour after the WOD. Not this time baby. 5,280 feet above sea level makes a difference. Plus, Chris had three beers last night and I had none. More scientific evidence that alcohol improves performance.
Did 50 gd mf cs burpees for warm-up. Gotta get better at these, and although I hate to admit it, I think these are probably one of the best aerobic excercises for total body work.
Fran as Rx'ed, TT = 6:48
Felt tired and sluggish like it sounds you all were too. Still a couple WOD's behind, but haven't found a good WOD to double up on lately.
WODoers:
ReplyDeleteI expected the pullups to go poorly, what really suprised me was how shitty the thrusters went. Over a minute slower than pr,
5:23
Once again mucsle inability to contract took away a little of the metcon burn. Glad to be done. I want to know who pissed off coach...
