Filthy Fifty

What is best in life Conan? "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, to hear the lamentations of the women."

  1. WODoers:

Finally broke the 30 minute barrier barely. I get faster at everything but the burpees. I usually just want to fall down after the first 10. I bet I could shave four minutes off my time if the burpees were first. This one fucks me up worse than any other WOD besides Fran.

  2. WODudes,

Chased Myles around the gym on this, he started before me. I decided to do full pullups chest to bar (50), 65lb on the push press, and 53lb kettle swing. This made the workout that much harder.
Finished the double unders at 34:58. DU's were my least impressive exercise performance.
Felt good to get this one done.

This morning did 1000m row, 10,9,8...1 progressively heavier push press, then 750m row.

Justin, congrats on finishing so fast. Conan is cool!

  3. WOD Crew,

Is this the same filthy fifty that we always do or do the excercises change? I was at about 24 minutes or less when I made it to burpees and double unders.

    Total Time - 33:24

Cramps hit both calves on my first burpee. Jumping without my calves made DU's extremely tough. Later fellas.

  5. As RX'd except for the DU's, subbed knee tucks, don't have a jump rope and couldn't do them even if I did.

    Total time : 29:56

This one hurt. Have a good night guys!

  6. First time doing the fifty. Not Rx, as I can't actually touch my knees to elbows, I get close, about 2-3 inches, and can't do DUs yet. I scaled with jump knee tucks. I thougth it was going well till I hit the wall ball, then I seemed to loose all my energy. I suffered with pukie through the burpees, then got cramped calves on the jump knee tucks. Spent 6+ minutes on the knees to elbows, 8 min on WallBall, and 9+ on burbees with breaks. Nothing impressive, 49:46.

  7. Good job Edward! Just finishing is an accomplishment sometimes. It gives you a starting point and you know it can only get better!

  8. This is one of my favorite WODs because of the variety of moves, and obviously one of the toughest. Edward, way to perservere, you didn't quit, and that's what matters most!

Myles, you are a machine, but is it enough to get into the Games? I hope so dude.

CJ (Chris). You're an anus. You beat my time and we've been CF'ing the same amount of time. Only by 30 seconds though. Good job, now I have something to shoot for once I'm back in the saddle.

Justin, you improve every single day man... keep going, you're a machine too!

Tornado. You weight 150 lbs, you are not supposed to up the weight on things. What is wrong with you? You are a BAD ASS!!!!

Sitting around, waiting to WOD. Gonna start early with light WOD's on Monday, go next week light, then by the following weekend I am back to full steam. At least you only get one vasectomy in your life so I can cross that one off the list.

  9. Fletcher I know there are some bad ass mutha fuckers Travis and I will be facing. One slight advantage we have is that we train at 6500 feet. We had a trainer from Crossfit San fran come by yesterday for a WOD and he was complaining about the lack of oxygen. I hope to bring all that I got and leave it all there, that's all I can do. OH sweet a new quote for our new gym
"Bring everything you have and leave it all here"
Hopefully my inner monster comes out and is able to eat other competitors.

  10. Myles Lewis,
Funny you mention that because contrary to popular belief altitude and its effects on athletic performance are more inhibitory in the domain of anaerobic activity (i.e. Crossfit) then let’s say aerobic activities such as long distance running and biking. The biggest immediate impact on performance in the way of altitude changes is its effects on the bodies ability to produce lactic acid and metabolize waste, otherwise known as the “Lactate Paradox”. Since O2 is not as readily available your body doesn’t have the needed fuel to efficiently engage in liver glycolysis and metabolize the by-products of anaerobic tissue break down and further distribute o2 to the tissues. Not to mention decreased VO2Max, decreased speed, power, work capacity and sustained target heart rate... and the list goes on.

My advice to anyone who trains at higher altitude is to not spend too much time at a lower altitude because you lose all altitude related effects within a 48-72 hour window, with Hgb and RBC counts even dropping to a negative baseline state.

The “Mile High” city is definitely going to mess us Low Landers up, we’re mega screwed, but own well, so is life.

Conservative performance equivalents have gone as far as to equate the advantage/disadvantage of altitude to roughly 12 meters in a 400m run and 4 minutes of a marathon and some other example, but I forgot the rest.

So about a 3-5% altitude related performance change for the better or the worse, depends on who you are and where you are at and going.
