Talk about a cheap but awesome piece of workout equipment. I got the idea when I saw Mikko's wall ball. I took a $6 sixty pound sand bag and rapped it with a $4 roll of duck tape. I did some 15 inch box jumbs with it and they were kinda scary. Windsprints should be pretty brutal too, and all for just 10 bucks. I will probably at one more roll of duck tape before I would feel good about dropping on the ground abunch. That a size 11.5 shoe to give you a size reference.
Justin, this is great. I want to make one of these too! And just to add to all the fun, here's a vid of Chelle finishing the 50 with overhead lunges (her sub for DUs, using 10 lb plate). A brief lookaround at the garage gym. Justin, check out my pullup bar, maybe you could do that at your place? I have a high hanging side and a lower hanging side. All made with black pipe from the hardware store. Heavily anchored top using 6" lag bolts, screwed through a big ass 2"x8"x8 feet board.
WODoers: Realize rings were to low to kip after I started so did strict pull ups and cut the reps in half. TT= 12:27
ReplyDeleteJacob, I'm almost embarrassed to post my time after seeing your sub 9 on this, but then I realized I'm a mere mortal and you are a machine. Damn impressive dude.
ReplyDeleteMy pullups were absolutely horrible today. I had no grip. Deadlifts weren't bad at all.
TT: 17:25
Enjoy the football games guys.

One sign of addiction is when you say you are not going to do something and then you go ahead and do it anyway. I had a really sore back this morning and last night, but I stretched and rowed some today (Thanks Justin!) and it got to feeling somewhat better, then I put a movers belt on and did the WOD. TT = 17:30. Chris you are an a-hole. 5 seconds. I had a really hard time with the 150 pullups, was doing 2-3 at a time a lot of the time. Only two rests during all DL's. Jacob, once again, AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteMy wife Chelle did her version of the Filthy Fifty (with gnarly subs) in 38 minutes. I got some vid of her last move, which is holding 10 lb plate overhead and doing deep lunges, 50 of them, instead of DU's. She did awesome!! If you guys are lucky I might post it later.
TT=16:55
ReplyDeleteHigh-rep PU WODs are always problematic for me because of my basement setup; my bar is at only about 7', which makes it really hard to kip away. I can kind of do a modified kip w/ my legs bent, but it's hard to string anything together that way. So I always end up doing as many deadhangs as I can to start, then some mix of kips, toe-assisted, and sometimes ring PUs from sitting. That's what I did today, which makes this a longwinded way of saying not totally as rx'd. Still a good WOD though. DLs were all unbroken except the set of 12 (7-5).
Do you guys use any protein supplements? I'd been drinking protein shakes the past six months or so (as disclosure, I'm usually pretty good at getting in a solid 3 square a day too), but when I ran out a couple of weeks ago I tried to make do without, and ended up losing 3-4 pounds pretty quickly. I've tried Muscle Milk and Cytogainer (from the same place that makes Muscle Milk); they definitely make it easier to start the day and to get something in me quick after working out, but I'd love some thoughts from the group on benefits/disadvantages/preferences.
Cheers all
Not that it matters, but it was weird today. It was like I "forgot" about kipping until around pu # 100, then I was like "oh yah" and started kipping! Justin, awesome PIC!!! Nice!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up fellas? I was trying to get the DUBEX and this WOD in today between the games. But, it's now almost halftime of the MIN - NO game. So, I think I'll have to try to catch up with a double tomorrow. Finished DUBEX, will post there. Later fellas.
ReplyDeleteChas, I use plain baking whey. Only 70 calories per serving and 20 grams of protein and if I remember correctly it has practically no carbs. It's unflavored so I just have it with milk.
ReplyDeleteThe only real diet goals I've have is 200 grams protein through shakes (4 times a day) and 1 466 calorie paleo kit, along with as little carbs as reasonably allowed. That right there counts for about 1,500 calories of my diet then add in meals and such and I think I'm up at around 4,000-5,000 calories a day.
Still can't gain weight, just getting leaner at the same bodyweight.
Chelle's Filthy TT was actually 36:38 if anyone gives a hoot!
ReplyDeletebought that clock eh?...such a nerd!
ReplyDeleteSean is lurking! Chelle and I got it for each other for Christmas. It's great, use it almost every day (and it went on sale....) But I won't defend if I am a nerd. I am a nerd for sure.
ReplyDeleteMan, you guys kicked the shit out of me on this one. Pull-ups still kicked my ass. Tore a callous at the 30 pull-up mark, so I was down to singles from 110 - 150. But, I finished.
ReplyDeleteTT = 29:22
Still a day late. Will catch a double tomorrow. Later fellas.
