Unlucky 7s

Been working out Rocky style lately. Unfortunately my barn doesn't have a fireplace.

  1. WODoers: I recently separated after long term relationship. I rented a guest house and as part of the deal I got one stall in the barn. In the summer I'm gonna get the space where the trailor is for true 15' rope climps. Pretty stoked. Weird being single again, but life goes on. In a town like this there is no shortage of fit and fun women. 100+ days on the mountains does amazing things to the female body.

WARNING: do not do today's wod with a bar with center knurling or you will give yourself a big ol' crossfit hickey on the back of your neck. My has no knurling so my prize is just a big bruise.

Two below zero today, so I had to run inside and find a pair of gloves during round 2. It cost me a bout two minutes. Total time: 28:55. This Wod became more about finishing and less about time after round 3.

Weaver: Turns out I don't need heat. Just a fucking brain to remember to put on gloves!

WODoers: Any recomendations on a web capable video camera to video oly lifts for training purposes?

  2. Justin, are you bumming, relieved, or both? I use a couple of space heaters in my garage. that video I took of Chelle the other day was right off of my iPhone. Great little web cam built right in. I also have a Flip Mino HD. Better picture, but way bigger files too.

WODoers, I found this WOD to be quite challenging. When I saw this last night I thought "that's going to be fun!" But that's while I was drinking beer and before my son woke me up at 5 AM! Still, we must get it done. CF is about mental toughness even more than physical to me. The body can do it, but will the mind allow it?

A few rounds into this one I set a goal of maintaining 4 minutes per round and finishing under 28 minutes. After 6 rounds I was at 24:20 so I had to dig deep for round 7.

    TT = 27:52.

That one put me on my back for a few afterwards. Great WOD. Metcon, power, agility, and core! Hardest move for me were those snatch balances.

Functional fitness application: If you ever have something around 100 pounds drop on top of you, you can catch it wide grip, go into OHS, then set it calmly down on the ground. :-)

Going to get a pro massage this morning. Awesome timing. Haven't done that in over a year.

  3. And I agree, it became more about finishing for sure. After 5 rounds I thought "that would have been a sufficient workload" but you can't do 5 then quit!! What would the guys on the blog say?

  4. Justin, if you're sad in light of your current situation, I'm sad for you. If you're happy, I'm happy for you. I too have recently come out of a 2+ year relationship in the last 2 months, and I think about her daily... It is weird though, and sometimes it's easy and other times it's hard, but I hope you have more easy days then hard ones.

Take care man, be strong... just like you are.

From: Jacob, not so strong dude.

    To: Justin, strong dude.

    As for the WOD

I think I'm going to give this a go with 115lbs and shoot for a round every 2:00-2:15, hopefully it works out. That Rory guy is crazy blowing through the first round in 39 seconds, that right there will shut you down. I'm seriously going to rest as much as I can on this and try to stick to a round every 2 minutes or so.

    Will post later.

  5. Justin hang in there man. I'm sure this is tough to go through. I won't pretend to know anything about your situation, but life is too short to be unhappy. Be happy.

Second WOD of the day and man it was tough mental battle for me. Jacob I don't know how you do 3 day. Other than the fact your 11 years younger than me. Damn impressive, keep training hard!

I liked this WOD other than the fact it kicked my ass good. Power snatches felt really good today. Toughest part for me was the OHS.

    R1-3:08
    R2-4:17
    R3-4:45
    R4-4:09
    R5-3:52
    R6-3:48
    R7:3:30

    TT: 26:31

And now I will rest. Peace out fellas.

  6. I appreciate your thoughts fellas. Everything is fine, it was my decision. I was mostly just explaining my new digs for doing the WODs. It is definitely weird too, but I am a happy guy.

There are some great things about being a single guy, like getting a brand new 8' leather coach for $98 cause it was part of a sectional and there is part of the front with cloth instead of leather, because it is where the coaches were supposed to come together. No way does that plan fly with any woman I have ever met, eventhough it saves $1500 bucks.

  7. Oh great, another Fletcher triple post day, just what we need.

Just a note that I had fun with Chelle in the garage gym today. She did this WOD, her first time with all of these moves. Her shoulders and wrists are her goat, so I was darn proud of her. She scaled to 33 lbs (women's rogue bar) and she did 6 rounds, didn't time it. But she did damn good! Skipped round 7 cos her shoulder made a yukky sound and started hurting her pretty good. She said her shoulders were so sore after she could barely wash her hair in the shower! I have a couple of vids of her that I might post later. Right now we're going out for sushi, the babysitter cometh!

    Peace out ya'll

  8. So today didn't come together like I planned, I fell behind on round four and there after, but then again 115lbs didn't make it any easier.

    Seven rounds for time of:
115 pound Power snatch, 7 reps
115 pound Snatch balance, 7 reps
115 pound Overhead squat, 7 reps

  9. NIce score time and effort Justin, Chelle, Craig, Chris! Way to finish.
    Jacob that was quick dude.
Today was rest day and rest I did, not much activity today. Considering the unlucky 7's in the Sun AM.

Justin, consider leaving your bar indoors at night. Peace out fellas.

  10. Justin I will tell our members to suck it up now when they complain of being chilly. I am taking 2 days of rest but will do this one on monday @6am. Looks fun.
Fletcher the videos of your wife showering might get her upset, but if you want to show us?

  11. Justin, I like this idea from my buddy Sean: Take a plumbers torch to the bar in the morning. You know, MAPP Gas!! Fire that sucker up, heat up the metal.

Jacob, that is awesome especially considering you added 20 lbs. I hope that WOD kicked your ass, then I'll know you are a human being.

  12. Yes Fletcher I felt bad afterwards, I usually do.

  13. 25:50 as rx'd

That was a tough one. After the first round, I had a tough time figuring out when during each rd I would rest, since I was flooring the bar. Eventually I went six snatches-rest-snatch and most of the balances-rest-balances and OHS. I would have liked to do only one breather per round but form was for shit if I went right thru balances and OHS.

Tornado, in terms of skiing, I live in CT so what we've got here for our Saturday outings is basically the equivalent of you putting on your sticks and getting the mail at the end of your driveway. But it's good for my 7yo son, and we're gonna hit some better hills in VT and NH starting in February. From what I've read here, it sounds like most of you bastards live in ski country, and although I'm new on this blog I hate you all for that. But of course I'll take you up on the offer if I'm in Tahoe...

  14. What's up fellas? I through one round on this one a go today, but couldn't make it work. I slept like shit all weekend and my shoulders/arms/neck are all inflexible right now. So, I worked on some rope climbs and ring dips instead.

Climbed the total height of a rope for the first time ever in my life tonight! I was so jacked to have done it that I did it 2 more times. Also did about 20 ring dips as well in between rope climbs.

Looking forward to a good week. Later fellas.

  15. Slept on dreading this one all night since Saturday was my rest day. I did so much (not weightlifting) cleaning today at the gym then at home. Finally I had reached my get off your ass and on the WOD breaking point.

Warmed up with 35lb bar. Thought about doing it just with it but then again didn't want to do it at all. Then did a set with 45, then one snatch with 85 and said screw it just do it you pussy.

    As rx's with 95,
    Seven rounds for time of:
115 pound Power snatch, 7 reps
115 pound Snatch balance, 7 reps
115 pound Overhead squat, 7 reps

    1:47
    4:03
    6:17
    8:21
    10:36
    13:07
    15:10

I'm sweating hard, oh by the way I brought the 95lbs home from the gym and one of the reasons I didn't want to do this is because I was at home it was getting dark and cold. So I did it in front of my TV in my living room. Pantera on Pandora!
