My Dad
Guys.
My dad is 60. He's been doing spin class 5 days a week faithfully for like 3 years. Tonight over dinner he promised me he will try CrossFit for one month. Awesome. I sent him links to the two affiliates closest to him and I committed to drive across town to meet him for the 6 AM class 5 days a week for the first month.
This is going to be cool.
If he follows through, I think I'll WOD with him and do what the affiliate RX's so that means I won't be doing the main site stuff cos' I'm hanging with dad.
TW - Tonight my dad said "From the moment I met that kid, and as I got to know him better, I always thought he really had his shit together and he was going to be someone special." And you are, you are changing lives for the better every day. How may people can say that?
Anyway, dad says hey.
Later penii

So you're sayin that Gene is going to earn his 'Mean Gene' title back. Fellas, when I was 12 I thought Fletcher's dad was Macho Man Randy Savage. He is thick as a brick built like a lumber jack and he even had the macho man beard. Dude could be bad (24 years ago).
ReplyDeleteThat should be fun, don't give him the Rhabdo. TW
That is sweet Fletcher! I have a buddy who is a realtor here in Jackson and I got him started on crossfit a couple of months ago. I thought he was in his fifties, but we were talking the other day and he is 65 years old. He did a 100 pullups in 8 sets with a minute of rest cause he didn't realize how the for time worked. He is six foot 175 and he can bench 300#. He had a 400# in college. So sixty is definitely not too late to start.
ReplyDeleteWODoers: Fletcher sent me ab ripper x from p-90x. I tried to keep up but I could only do about 80% of the reps. It was tough as hell. I don't know how functional any of it is, but now I know why everyone on that comercial has a six pack. I think doing it once in a while will help my ab strength, but I don't think it can compare with heavy OHS squats or the gymnastic holds for real life core strength. From reading Louie Simmons and Coach, true strength is a function of neromuscular action. It has as much to do with the brain firing the muscles as it has to do with the contractial potential of the muscle. That is why Louies says never do 3 reps over 90% in one work out or you will overload the central nervous system. Imagine how crazy that deadlift wod from the games is on the brain.
Justin, thanks for the story I'll tell my dad about it. Back was pretty sore (in a good way) today after the unlunky 7's so I hit the massage chair. Here I am making a dork face. I love that chair, it really works great. We've had it for a couple of years now and we use it quite a bit. I think CrossFit Avalanche needs one of these! (Check out my CrossFit Avalanche T-Shirt!).
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to suggest to my dad to go to CrossFit Verve, Matt Chan's gym. It's right between his house and his work. Only thing is he needs to shower after and get ready to go to work. I doubt they have public showers but I'll find out.
I like the shirt Fletcher, represent! 15:10 on unlucky 7's. It is all in the head!
